Start Learning Morse Code

A simple order for beginners. Learn each signal as a rhythm and move forward when recognition is accurate rather than merely familiar.

Step 1: Understand Symbols

Learn what dots, dashes, and silence represent. A dot lasts one unit, a dash three, and spacing separates marks, characters, and words.

Step 2: Learn Alphabet

Hear a few contrasting letters at a time. Recall the complete rhythm instead of counting individual dots and dashes.

Step 3: Learn Numbers

Study the regular five-mark numeral patterns and use them in short coordinates, callsigns, and identifiers.

Step 4: Practice Common Words

Join familiar characters into short words. Listen once, type the answer, then review the character breakdown.

Step 5: Improve Listening

Hide the written pattern, hear the signal, commit to an answer, and review difficult characters beside a contrasting rhythm.

Step 6: Increase Speed

Increase words per minute only when accuracy and spacing remain stable. Speed should follow recognition, not replace it.

Every character is built from a standard relationship between dots, dashes, and silence.

    One unit of signal.

    Three units of signal.

  3. Letter gap3 units

    Three units of silence.

  4. Word gap7 units

    Seven units of silence.
